Written by Roger Stern and illustrated by Mike Mignola, Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment is one of Marvel’s most acclaimed graphic novels of the 1980s.

The story begins when Doctor Doom asks Doctor Strange for help rescuing the soul of Doom’s mother, Cynthia von Doom, from the realm of Mephisto. Although Doom is one of Strange’s greatest enemies, Strange agrees after witnessing Doom’s genuine desire to save his mother.

The two powerful figures travel into Mephisto’s domain, where they must battle demonic forces and confront their own pride, fears, and personal demons. Doom’s obsession with saving his mother forces him to make an impossible choice between victory and sacrifice.
